Osstem Implant | Optimizing Implant Success: Surgical, Regenerative, and Digital Strategies

Thursday, May 15, 02:30 PM – 04:00 PM

Despite the efforts that every clinician should make to preserve and maintain the natural dentition of patients, sometimes it is necessary to extract one or more teeth that need to be replaced, followed by implant prosthetic reconstruction.

In patients with a history of severe periodontal disease, cases of edentulism are encountered, where the remaining alveolar bone and surrounding soft tissues have been severely compromised. This condition requires knowledge of regenerative surgical techniques capable of restoring hard tissues at implant sites.

Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) procedures often require extensive flaps to achieve passive primary closure. Various materials are used as membranes for GBR procedures from cross-linked and non-cross-linked resorbable collagen membranes to non-resorbable membranes and titanium meshes.

Soft tissue grafting is often required but can be avoided in some cases using different membranes since certain materials have less negative impact on soft tissue healing. After implant uncovery, the prosthetic digital workflow aims at capturing accurate implant scan body positions as well as the submarginal contour of the peri-implant mucosa. Correct emergence contour and shape of prosthetic components as well as utilizing bio-integrative materials are important determinants of prosthesis fit and peri-implant health.
